Colon Hydrotherapy as Preparation to Colonoscopy
Before a person will undergo the procedure of colonoscopy, he or she will be prepared first by removing all stools in his or her intestines so that the doctor will have a clear view of the intestines wall as colonoscopy will be conducted. In order to empty the large intestine and clean it, it is either the patient will be given harsh laxatives at home, or will undergo colon hydrotherapy in the clinic before the doctor can perform colonoscopy.
The doctor will prescribe the laxatives to take, and the powder will be mixed in a gallon of water, and the person will drink one glass of water in every 10 minutes until the gallon is consumed. A diarrhea will be experienced as the patient drank the first few glasses of laxative.
Another preparation to examine the colon or undergo colonoscopy is the colon hydrotherapy which is said to be a smart way of cleansing and preparing the colon. Under several health conditions, colonic or colon hydrotherapy is the usual prescription of medical doctors. Colon hydrotherapy features machines with thermostat, manometer, and disposable equipment, and irrigation in the colon is conducted with the use of purified and clear water together with soft abdominal massage.
By using colon hydrotherapy or colonic, the patient will have the following advantages.
In the first place, to clean the patient’s colon, there is no need to drink a gallon of water or take strong laxatives.
Next is that the patient is in a restful lying down position in a clinic as the procedure is done by a well-trained colon hydrotherapist. The flow of water will be stopped as the patient feels the need to defecate, with the discharge valve opened, there is a natural discharge of waste since the colon is allowed to clear itself of waste with it being carried out by the outflow of water.
The repeat water flashing done in colon hydrotherapy would allow full cleansing from fecal matter that would give the gastroenterologist a clear view to observe the whole colon lumen and conduct a productive examination of the colon.
Part of the colonic procedure is the gentle massage performed by the experienced hydrotherapist, and the massage makes the water deeper into the beginning of the colon, and further remove the waste from the wall of the colon.
Before a colonoscopy procedure, the colon is prepared by performing the colonic one or two days before conducting the colonoscopy itself. The completion of colonic procedure is between 30 to 40 minutes, and the only instruction before the procedure is done is for the patient not to take solid food two hours before the procedure.
